Sustainable mineral recovery. That's what we do.
About us
Geo40 is an innovative technology development and operating company based in New Zealand. We target sustainable, low-carbon recovery of valuable minerals from subterranean fluids. We're a team of diverse experts committed to solving global sustainability challenges within strong environmental, social and governance principles. We believe that the imperative for decarbonisation is acute. We know we can leverage our technology to play a meaningful role here. Our focus to date has been on recovering silica, commonly the most abundant and problematic element for geothermal plant operators. Removing the silica first can open the gateway to recovering the other valuable elements (including Critical Minerals), which are generally present in lower concentrations. With the commercialisation of Geo40’s silica-recovery technology (Ohaaki Northern Plant), the company’s technology-development focus has been increasing directed onto lithium, with some early stage work on other valuable elements. Follow us to learn about sustainable mineral recovery - how we do it, how we can contribute to decarbonisation, and the benefits of working with us.

See details below on the publication of our first EPD (EPD Australasia), covering our Colloidal Silica 1430Na product. Steve Urquhart Che Kranenburg John Worth
Congratulations Geo40 Limited on the publication of their first EPD which covers their Colloidal Silica 1430Na - an aqueous dispersion of amorphous silicon dioxide nanoparticles. For more than a decade the Geo40 team has developed an exclusive process of mineral recovery from geothermal fluids. In 2021, the scalable technology culminated with their first commercial-scale silica recovery plant commissioned in Ohaaki, New Zealand, producing approximately 3,000 metric tons of geothermal colloidal silica annually. They are supplying multiple traditional and emerging industrial markets with customisable acidic and basic colloidal silica sols, supporting their growing number of partners in reducing the carbon footprint of everyday products. Did you know? Our low-carbon GeoGROUT40 can replace or support high-carbon resin, silicate-based and cement grouts. In fact, colloidal silica grouts offer ease of transmission into most stratum types and are typically injected more successfully than many other competing grout types. Interested to know more? Moving ahead in lithium...
*Tech Developer in Sourcing of Sustainable Future Minerals * Partnering with those who seek better environmental outcomes*
Last week we featured on Joe Lowry's Global Lithium Podcast. Joe tells me that in 161 episodes this is the first time he has specifically featured a direct lithium recovery firm - and particularly one targeting North American low to moderate-grade fluids. It's available on all podcast platforms or below. We've been working rather quietly in the lithium sector for four years now and this summer we'll be out in the field with our third pilot plant, working on site in North America. From here, we plan to scale up rapidly, just as we have in silica recovery. Exciting times for our committed team.
